This year the DH2018 main social event will be a Mexican fiesta to be held on Thursday, June 28th from 6 pm to 10 pm. The event will be hosted by Universidad del Claustro de Sor Juana, which is housed in the ex-convent of San Jerónimo in the historic center of Mexico City.  The convent was built in 1623 and was home to Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz, one of the most notable Mexican writers. Sor Juana is regarded as a self-taught scholar who tirelessly challenged the privileges of men in Colonial society, becoming one of the most prolific writers of her time. This beautifully restored building is also where Mexico’s first masters in Digital Humanities program was founded.

The Organizers of DH2018 are making great efforts so that this social event is accessible to all participants.  With this in mind, the event will be less formal than on previous occasions. We hope you can join us!

The Universidad del Claustro de Sor Juana is 3.6 km from the hotel María Isabel Sheraton, the conference venue. It is approximately 45 minutes walking. By metro the journey takes 21 minutes, including a 12 minute walk to the metro station from the hotel. A taxi ride takes approximately 25 minutes. Please be advised that transport is not included. However, we shall be providing maps and guidance getting to the venue as well as volunteers to lead groups if necessary.
